Catch our next performance at Celebrate Drama 2016!

From SDEA Singapore.

So we asked Michael Cheng, the artistic director of Tapestry Playback Theatre and SDEA member:

What is Playback Theatre and what can we expect from 'You Never Knew I Was' at Celebrate Drama! 2016?

"In Playback Theatre, there is no script. We invite the audience to share moments and stories from their lives, and these are enacted spontaneously on stage, using elements of movement, word, cloth and music. Every single story is honoured, and at the same event, a spirit of community emerges as we respect different perspectives that emerge in response.

For this performance, we are working with young Singaporeans as performers, to play back the stories to the theme of “You never knew I was…”. What stories do you have that your close family members have not heard before? What story of yours would surprise them? What stories would you tell?"

"You Never Knew I Was..."
Date: 16 July 2016
Time: 11am to 1pm
Venue: The Arts House (Play Den)
Tickets: $20, $25 (Early Bird: $18, $23)

Clocks and Cockroaches - our first show with signing interpretation!

It is difficult to describe the complex feelings we have when people trust us enough to play back their stories.

We are humbled and joyful that we have the platform to do this work. We are grateful, for friends new and old, that came to share in our journey. We are thankful that we are still here, doing our best.

This is us. In our 14th year, still learning, still growing, still trying out new things, still listening, still serving, and still playing back your stories. =)

Please enjoy these photos from our two shows on May 21 & 22, 2016 at Toa Payoh Central Community Club Auditorium.

Until the next time!

Come join us at this Playback Theatre show to share and
listen to stories and be enchanted by the spontaneous
enactment of the performers.

Playback Theatre is an improvisational theatre where
individual voices are honoured and communities built
through personal stories.

An interactive event. An improvisational form. A community
theatre engagement. A Playback Theatre performance.
In Playback Theatre, the audience is invited to share
moments and stories triggered by the theme. Performers
will then spontaneously enact them in short dramatic
vignettes, using elements of cloth, music, movement, and
spoken word.

Watch and listen as your stories come to life with
movement, word, music and cloth!
