Tapestry worked with young playbackers in a performance at Celebrate Drama, a Youth and Community Festival at the Arts House.

A wonderful night of stories from parents, grandparents and the children among the audience. We are glad to see everyone leaving theatre touched and with big smiles!

So we asked Michael Cheng, the artistic director of Tapestry Playback Theatre and SDEA member:

What is Playback Theatre and what can we expect from 'You Never Knew I Was' at Celebrate Drama! 2016?

"In Playback Theatre, there is no script. We invite the audience to share moments and stories from their lives, and these are enacted spontaneously on stage, using elements of movement, word, cloth and music. Every single story is honoured, and at the same event, a spirit of community emerges as we respect different perspectives that emerge in response.

For this performance, we are working with young Singaporeans as performers, to play back the stories to the theme of “You never knew I was…”. What stories do you have that your close family members have not heard before? What story of yours would surprise them? What stories would you tell?"
