We shared with them a proposed structure for PT practices that Tapestry would often do to get ready for our performances and taught them how to evaluate and do feedback sessions with members for practices and post-performance debriefs.

We were very happy to be a part of the MTI Playback Team performing in a community performance where MTI invited their local staff members, clients and their families to come and share their stories. Despite the difficulty of not having a common language, I believe hearts were touched and tears were shed when the local Cambodian audience experienced PT for the very first time.

We also worked closely with MTI to conduct a 2-day sharing session working alongside a local Non-Government Organisation known as "The Health Centre for Children". This is a shelter for girls who have experienced personal traumas despite their young ages. All of us were humbled by the openness and trust that were given to us by the girls during the two days. We felt very blessed as we have received more than what we have given to them. My personal joy was to see them enjoy the drama games that we shared with them on the first day, there was always a request to play their favourite game in the transitions between the programmes. Their genuine stories, tears and smiles touched our hearts and all of us want to return to share PT with them in the near future!

For further information, you can read about our trip in either of the articles that were published in the Straits Times on 30 Dec 2006 andLian He Zao Bao on 28 Jan 2007. We were very fortunate to have two reporters coming along to document some of the significant highlights of our last trip.

NUS Exxon Mobil Campus Concerts Performance "It's My Life"

We were invited by the organiser of the NUS Exxon Mobil Campus Concerts to share a special presentation of PT with NUS students and staff, and members of the public. In spite of our crazy work/study schedules, Jerry, Renee, Michael, Ee Mien and I were able to be involved in this special evening performance. Many meaningful moments were shared and I had a significant moment when I invited a member of the NUS stage crew to come up to the stage to share a significant moment that changed herlife. It was definitely a first for me as the "invisible" crew member became visible for once. Tapestry hopes that the NUS performance is the start of many opportunities to share PT in our specific community groups. *hint hint to those of you who may have an idea of wanting to share PT in your community or workplace, do give us an email at tapestry.sg@gmail.com*

The Playback Experience (Intro PT Workshop)

Tapestry is holding two introductory workshops for PT in March and October 2007. What is Playback Theatre?

This is a theatre form based on improvisation and it has been practised in over 30 countries in the world.

It was created by Jonathan Fox who believed in a spontaneous theatre that reflected back to a gathered audience their view of the world as they experienced it.

In a playback theatre performance, an audience member tells a real feeling or story from their life situations, chooses actors to play the different roles, and watches as their story is given artistic shape and coherence.

By telling and re-enacting these stories, Playback Theatre enables a community to get to know its members better.

It is all about respect, sharing real stories, connecting individuals to each other, and creating a deeper sense of community

For more information about playback theatre, please visit www.playbacknet.org

Leave your comments or queries with this blog!Momokohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08499726506650732030noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14839335.post-1126621543185237172005-09-13T22:24:00.000+08:002005-09-13T22:25:43.190+08:00Poem: Let’s Watch by Gabriel LeeFlowing with such fluidity,
As if water flowing along
The river before merging
With the majestic waterfalls.

Such splendour, such intensity.
Such vibrancy, such awakening.
One’s senses come alive!
One’s senses come So alive!

Crashing upon the surface of
The waters below,
To the bottom of the waterfalls,
Never once losing shape.

The shape, not once
Has it lost.
Just collecting itself once more
And moving on again.

Never ceases to amaze,
How it crashed and yet
Not lose its shape
Not at all.

Though might be losing
In intensity
And speed
But not the shape.

This is how the story
Goes for Playback,
As the story is being
Played back.

The essence of it all,
Remains but
The intensity and speed
Might have had diminished.

For the teller,
That is how the healing
Starts right from
That point forth.

The essence of seeing
The scene unfold
Before his eyes
Right in front of him.

Though the memories might return,
They lose their intensity and speed
Of loss, pain, hurt and anger.
In place, peace reigns.

The healing has begun.
Welcome to Playback Theatre.
Welcome and
Let’s Watch. Momokohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08499726506650732030noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14839335.post-1126502963653104252005-09-11T13:23:00.000+08:002005-09-12T13:29:23.660+08:00Sunday's Timelines
ANNE's

MICHAEL's

AGNES'

K!M's

CHRIS'K!Mberlynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14839335.post-1123086626514520492005-08-04T00:25:00.000+08:002006-04-25T23:09:32.630+08:00Jerry Louis, Actor and Trainer
Greetings! I am Jerry, a good natured, bubbly but harmless, young and gorgeous guy! My friends know me as one who is full of nonsense but yet blessed with a nurturing heart. I guess it’s this genuine desire to be of service to people that has kept me in Tapestry Playback.

I started joining Tapestry without a clue of what I was getting myself into. Agnes, a college friend asked me to attend a full-day workshop conducted by Veronica Needa late last year. I just went by faith to attend the workshop. By the end of a day of playing fun games and learning about playback skills, I found that I really enjoyed myself! It was at this workshop that I saw my first playback performance and it was WOW! I thought to myself this was not an easy thing to do and there is no way I can do it, ie. to think on my feet. However, this started my love affair with playback theatre. I really wanted to challenge myself; to see if I could come up with a fluid sculpture on the spot. The first few times were freaky. I watched my fellow members offer their parts while I was left standing alone. I wished I had a hole to swallow me up. Gradually, I learnt that it was not about coming up with the best but just to offer. I feel very touched when I realise that the things that I can do in playback stories allow people to connect with one another on a deeper level.

Presently, I am a teacher working with children of multiple disabilities, after years of working in advertising and public relations. I enjoy watching movies and analyzing them... a hazard from studying it during university days. I love singing, hiking and camping. My dream is to backpack my way along the Silk Road and experience the vibrant cultures of this ancient route.Momokohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08499726506650732030noreply@blogger.com
